The idea of changing your oil every three to six months or 5000 km (3,000 miles) has been pounded into our heads by the oil change industry for years. It’s been a misconception for years that engine oil should be changed every 3000 miles, even though most auto manufacturers now recommend oil changes at 5,000, 7,000, or even 10,000 mile intervals. Scientificly it is not necessary!

Every year in the U.S. alone, these too-short drain intervals result in the unneeded production of 300-400 million gallons of engine oil, excess consumer expenditures of around .5 billion and tens of millions of unnecessary oil changes, not to mention the millions of gallons of waste oil improperly disposed of....and this is just in the U.S.A. alone. Think about the amount of oil wasted and discarded into the invironment by the other 194 countries.
